The upgrading of the S-300PMU AD missile system is going on. Last October, its new version S-300PMU3 was demonstrated at the arms exhibition in Athens, featuring 9M96E and 9M96E2  missiles whose weight is low while not range compared with the original – just 420 kg. This allows to increase the number of missiles mounted on the system up to 16.

Thanks Vladimir

Latest Notes 25/12/05

This system has just entered service with Greece ( 21 units). They seem to be having some problems with the mobility aspects of the system. It was designed to be transported on Russian railway cars, the Russian rail system's loading gauge is larger than the European equivalent. Hence the Greeks have discovered that they system won't fit some tunnels. Never the less they have started a bidding round for more systems, this competitor in this round is the Canadian ADATS.
